“We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.” (Isaiah 64:6 NLT)

http://www.worldjournal.com/view/full_nynews/24641984/article-%E6%94%BF%E5%BA%87%E7%94%B3%E8%AB%8B%E4%BD%9C%E5%81%87%E6%A1%88-%E6%9E%97%E9%BA%97%E8%8B%B13%E7%BD%AA%E6%88%90%E7%AB%8B?instance=hot_ny#ixzz2uX91eNkC

Meditation & Prayer: Reading the New York Times article “Asylum in Chinatown: An Industry of Lies” on the plane to L.A., my heart was disturbed intensely as though passing through an invisible but severe turbulence. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/23/nyregion/asylum-fraud-in-chinatown-industry-of-lies.html?hp&_r=1   It was so agonizing to read about the argument of a defendant who is being portrayed by her lawyer as a “devout Christian whose “goal was to help these individuals find God through the teachings of Christianity.” I couldn’t imagine someone “who worked at a church in Flushing, would give paid lessons in the basics of Christianity for immigrants seeking asylum for religious reasons and would coach applicants on how to lie” prosecutors said and I concur with their indicting statement. Even though some involved in the business say they are motivated more by politics and moral principles than by money, the fact of the matter is “the End should not justify the Means” as these defendants attempt to rationalize their illegal actions with good intentions, using Situational Ethics as the basis to circumvent the laws. “According to my system of values, what I did is correct,” said Xu Lu, a defendant who worked as an interpreter at law firms implicated in the schemes. “What you did is against the law but it is righteous,” he said of his actions. “You helped the weak. And you will be loved and remembered by the world.” This kind of twisted logic tells it all. There's an old saying, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Violation of laws to help someone lie to gain benefits is not Righteous by any definition.  Sadly enough, many Christians fail to distinguish the true values from the secular ways, instead choose to conform to the world’s perverse interpretation. Christian values determine what is right and what is wrong, according to the Biblical principles; and doing what is right or wrong is what we abide by as Christian ethics. For Christians whose nature have been transformed by Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), there is no justifying immoral behavior, no matter the motivation for it or the outcome of it. From this holy and perfect God, we get a law that reflects His attributes (Psalm 19:7;Romans 7:12).To behave ethically is to behave in a manner consistent with what is right or moralThat’s why my heart aches even more when learned that many churches give attendance receipts to help parishioners (Catholics) prove their Christian faith to asylum officers; while some Chinese Evangelical churches willingly baptize believers and issue baptism certificates after their brief attendance of church worship services. I pray for spiritual discernment among Chinese Christians, that we do not compromise or secularize our faith, or put ourselves in a risky position by dispensing social justice with a misguided sense of righteousness, for “We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags.” in Jesus holy name, amen.
