“I’m an immigrant in the land. Don’t hide your commandments from me!” (Psalms 119:19 Common English Bible)

Meditation & Prayer: Once the buyer obtains his loan commitment from the bank, our house is officially sold. Suddenly, leaving our home after 14 years becomes very nostalgic, with many fond memories of the MMM ministries and other life experiences happened here through these years. Sarah feels more attached to the house than I am for the fact that she singlehandedly designed and built my recording studio, TV anchor desk, and remodeled the entire full-basement used for church fellowship, co-workers meeting and even choir practices. Looking at heaps of personal belongings, furniture, and fixtures, Sarah tagged those items for sale, otherwise, packed them for donations. Literally, we sent truck loads of possessions to Salvation Army, Good Will Center, and local churches, including the huge conference table donated to a Chicago Southside African-American Baptist Church, which required 5 six feet tall muscled fellows to take it out of the house. Our moving involves multi-ethnic groups, blacks, Hispanics, Chinese, and Indians. A friend baffles at our decision to sell the house: “You are not even retired. With a stable government job, why don’t you guys enjoy and relax for a few more years, no need to rush, man!” Contrary to his worldview, our immediate plan is to shed, to simplify and to shun, instead of being endlessly pre-occupied by collection of material things. As Rev. Rick Warren says in his daily message: “But your life is not about things. God didn’t design you that way. You were never meant to keep collecting and collecting stuff.” (Daily Hope-June 26, 2013) We want to stay away from a life scenario where our minds are dominated by how much we own as a yardstick to measure worldly success. Because when I develop a mental picture of the disciples in response to Jesus’ calling, I notice none held on to their profession as fishermen, but rather immediately dropped down everything when they saw a much fruitful and meaningful life by following Jesus. Indeed“I’m an immigrant in the land”, but while we are here on earth, we learn to wait patiently for His call, to get ready at any moment for His commands. Surprisingly, this vibrant and hopeful feeling becomes the most exciting moments of our lives, in Jesus holy name we pray, amen. (Brother Mike Chan sharing)
